Hull
Truck Theatre presents…
BE MY BABY Written
by Amanda Whittington Thursday 27th May – Saturday 19th June, 8.00pm Hull Truck Theatre are stepping back in time to bring you their heart-warming production of Amanda Whittington’s play, BE MY BABY. The swingin’ sixties…the beehive, Mary Quant and Carnaby Street! But behind the glamour lies a much different story… Four young girls know only too well that free love ‘aint all it’s cracked up to be! One clumsy little fumble in the name of true teenage love leaves them with a nine-month sentence at St. Saviour’s – the unmarried mother and baby capital of the North! Bundled off in secret, Mary, Dolores, Queenie and Norma keep spirits up spinning their favourite 45’s and dreaming of stardom. They soon form a bond to carry them through the coming months with humour and strong will. As their time at St Saviour’s comes to an end, however, their dreams are shattered. Without so much as a cuddle, they say their goodbyes as their little ones are taken away. This bittersweet tale of growing pains and loss, friendship and survival, is sure to stir a tear and a smile.
